When it comes to therapy, the most important thing is for you to find someone who you simply click with (yes, the “fit” everyone talks about is real and absolutely critical). That’s why I encourage you to give me a call, talk with the real person behind the website, and find out if we’re a good match!

But before you make the call, here are a few things about my therapy approach that might clue you in on whether this is what you’re looking for:

You Are More Than Your Diagnosis or Label

No matter whether you’ve been given a diagnosis and regardless of what you’ve been diagnosed with, to me, you are much more than your diagnosis. I’m not interested in labeling or pathologizing you, and I would encourage you to begin seeing yourself beyond any labels too.

Strengths for the Win

In fact, I will focus a lot on your strengths. I know for a fact that you have overcome a lot of obstacles and challenges to be able to get to where you are today. Your strengths will be your greatest allies on your journey to healing and growth.

I’m Not a Robot

I will listen with genuine interest, but I’m also an active participant in our work together. You won’t feel like you’re just talking to a (stylish) robot programmed with the occasional nods, “how does that make you feel?” and “that must be hard.” I will relate to you as a real person and share with you my honest feedback (don’t worry, it will be delivered lovingly), so that you get to discover more about yourself and investigate how you relate to those around you.

Your Body Speaks the Truth

My therapy style is a bit different from the regular talk therapy that you’ve probably experienced firsthand or seen on TV. I will work with your whole person, yup, the whole person, engaging both your mind and your body in the therapy process. Therefore, instead of merely talking about your problems, we will also bring your awareness to your immediate, visceral experience of the problems, thus tapping into the wisdom held within your body. Believe it or not, we hold the history of our experiences and relationships in our bodies, and this very personal history of ours is then manifested outwardly in how we carry ourselves, move about in the world, and make contact with the people around us. By listening more intently to the unspoken voice of your body in our therapy work, you will have the opportunity to reconnect with your deeper desires, energies, intuition, and insights, all of which are critical to your healing and growth.

Yes, You Will Have Homework!

I’m a firm believer in the efficacy of your doing work outside of therapy to build up your emotional wellness muscles, expand your comfort zone, and solidify the gains made during our sessions together. Therefore, expect to leave each session with a homework assignment (or two) that’s tailored to you based on the great work you’ve done. You might be asked to practice a new skill, experiment with something new, write a poem, take a pole dancing lesson, etc…The possibilities are endless.

Harness the Power of Mindfulness

My therapy approach is mindfulness-based. What this means is that in our work together, you will learn to slow down and tune into your moment-to-moment experiences with open curiosity, which in turn will help you regain an inner state of stillness and clarity crucial for both healing and finding solutions to problems. One thing I will also encourage you to practice daily outside of therapy is meditation. I will teach you simple practices for your general wellbeing and specific practices for the tough times when you feel particularly overwhelmed by your emotions. Some of my clients found it difficult to practice meditation daily initially but are now avid practitioners because of the noticeable benefits they have reaped.

Wise up with Buddhist Psychology

I will also share relevant Buddhist Psychology concepts with you from a secular perspective when I believe they might be of help to your state of wellbeing. I’ve personally benefited tremendously from the wisdom of Buddhist teachings, and I hope they will delight and illuminate you, too.
